Another four upcoming artists from across the North East made their way to Wood’s Coffee in Tynemouth for this month’s instalment of The Red Carpet Sessions. The event showcased some amazing artists, all with their own unique sound, creating a one of a kind Saturday night of live music.
Host and Artist, Andsamlad got the night off to a chilled start with his smooth acoustic style. Never afraid to experiment with different genres, Sam treat Wood’s to jazz, reggae and hip-hop inspired acoustic melodies. Sam’s performance was the perfect start to a night all about showcasing North East artists of all styles and genres.
Holly Rees was up next! Another amazing acoustic artist, Holly took to the red carpet bringing with her an instant charm and likeability. With an array of original music, Holly’s song writing ability was clear for everyone at Wood’s to hear. Unapologetically down to earth lyricism meant each song took you though a vivid and relatable story.
Making the journey all the way from Hartlepool to Tynemouth, singer/songwriter Michael Gallagher was quick to catch the attention of the packed-out café. Gallagher’s indie rock style and performance was reminiscent of that of the famous brothers that share Michael’s surname. Gritty and high energy, Gallagher performed music from his recently released debut EP House Music as well as topping off his set with a superb cover of Getaway by Blossoms. Oozing natural talent and charisma, Michael Gallagher is one to keep an eye on.
The night was topped off in a spectacular way by hip-hop artist J-Smirk…and a couple of friends. J injected Wood’s with a shot of energy, despite the intimacy of the coffee shop venue J managed to get people to their feet and dancing. Smirk brought with him two of the North East’s hottest hip-hop artists; Kema Kay and Kay Greyson only added to J’s infectious performance creating a dynamic set. After three very different acts coming before him, J well and truly turned up the energy creating an amazing vibe to end the night.
