Gig Preview: Pharoahe Monch @ Riverside, Newcastle (10/09/17)

This Sunday sees another hip-hop legend descend upon Tyneside. Hailing from Queens, New York and considered one of the best lyricists in hip-hop history, Pharoahe Monch will rock Riverside Newcastle.

Monch is truly a veteran of the game, spitting rhymes for 30 years, perfecting his craft and making him one of the most respected rappers to have ever picked up a mic.

He found mainstream success in 1991 after the release of his debut album Internal Affairs, that produced the hit singleSimon Says.

‘Simon Says’ features one of the most recognisable beats in hip-hop history whilst also showcasing the sheer lyrical ability that made Monch famous. Defined by grittiness, big bass and an unrelenting flow, Monch encapsulates the best elements of 90s and early noughties rap.

Pharoahe Monch not only paved the way for today’s hip-hop artists with the success found in his solo career but also with the decade he spent as one part of rap duo, Organized Konfusion.
