LxngCat, Shoshin Noel and Icaarus AKA the Ronin Clan, are a trio of rappers with strange names and an equally strange sound. But in all seriousness, these guys caught my attention as they’ve got a sound like nothing I’ve ever heard come out of the North East before. They combine distorted trap beats with aggressively delivered fast accented lyricism, sprinkled with a little bit of screamo here and there, creating a sound that seems to be appealing to both rock fans and hip-hop heads alike.
It’d be easy to dismiss this lot as a bunch of ‘Soundcloud rappers’ trying to compramise on the popularity of artists like XXXTentacion and the late Lil’ Peep, but that’d be foolish. These guy’s are brining something fresh to the North East, they’ve got their own unique sound, a sound that looks to disrupt the traditonal ‘boom-bap’ rap style that’s become the norm for a lot of artists in the region – it might be worth taking notice of these lads.
