After releasing his first batch of new music for 2018 in the form of a four track EP earlier this month, the enigmatic Xaatu has become the first DJ/producer to feature as our ‘Artist of the Week’. Despite only coming in at around 17 minutes long, the ‘YOMI’ EP is an entrancing listen. Xaatu has the ability to create pieces of music that feel like more than just ‘songs’ – the best way to describe them would be sonic landscapes; each track transports you into it’s own unique spacey dimension with well thought out and intricately layered beats.

Speaking on the style of his music and the new EP, Xaatu told RIDE Music “In terms of genre, I’d say it’s somewhere between trap and future bass – but it’s been called all sorts! In terms of inspiration for ‘YOMI’, I just wanted to make a much darker set of songs than what I had done in the past, I’ve kind of moved away from the R&B influences that I used to have. I wanted all of the songs to sound different, but still cohesive, and four months and about 50 songs later these four were the ones I settled on…”
