A certified veteran in the North East hip-hop scene, this week’s ‘Artist of the Week’ is none other than South Shields legend Rick Fury after the release of his new album ‘Orangutan Diaries’.
The 13 track album sees Fury and long time collaborator DJ A.D.S come together to create the perfect summer chill album. Production wise, A.D.S has managed to bottle up that warm summer time feeling on this project – the mellow, ambient beats and perfectly chosen soulful vocal samples inspire you to crack open a can and get out bathing in the rare Geordie sunshine.
Pair the atmospheric production with Fury’s trademark smooth delivery and effortless flow and you’re in for 30 minutes of classic hip-hop goodness that makes you feel like you’re floating on cloud 9, sharing a joint with King Louie from The Jungle Book.
On this record Fury shows why he’s widely considered as one of the best in the region; his ability to switch up the pace of his flow from laidback to top gear with such ease is frightening. With Fury you can almost hear how easy this is for him in his delivery – the Killamari Records rapper sounds so relaxed, you can feel that he’s having fun and that energy transfers itself through the music.
