After dropping new single “Classic” and spitting a fire feature verse on NE Dons’ new single “Pick & Mix” last week, Middlesbrough’s Eyeconic is our ‘Artist of the Week’.
Since the release of his breakout third studio album ‘Sink or Swim’ in August last year, Eyeconic has been continuing to cement his name as one of the front runners of the North East grime scene. The Polish born MC arguably gave us the track of the year on ‘Sink or Swim’ with the anthemic reload magnet that is “Spit One Lyric”; a track that lights up a crowd every time its performed live – without fail.
Due to his infamously lit live performances and unique cadence on the mic, Eyeconic, along with Blitz, has become one of the stand out members of Teesside music collective TGF – proving on more than one occasion that he can shutdown a show whether he’s backed by the rest of the crew or not.
What else makes Eyeconic stand out is that he’s not afraid to step out of the box with his music. You can tell that he’s a student not only of hip-hop and grime, but a student of music in general; tracks like the acoustically melodic “Sleep” and the wavey psychedelic lounge vibe of “Alignment/Doors” show that Eyeconic is more than just your average bar spitter.
In 2018 Teesside as a region has seen some what of a resurgence in its hip-hop and grime scene, thanks to the likes of TGF and Kush Promotions pushing forward up and coming talent, and without doubt Eyeconic is one of the most talented of the bunch – this guy could put Middlesbrough on the grime map in a big way, keep your eyes peeled.
