As far as the North East’s humble hip-hop scene goes, Ken Masters is one of the few artists that truly lives up to the title ‘local legend’.
Over the years Ken has done it all, fighting to give Newcastle a voice in the wider UK hip-hop scene and subsequently creating a lane for the wave of talented young musicians coming up in the city today. Ken’s not hanging up the mic yet though, he still regularly rocks shows and drops top-tier singles; most recently a collaboration with Ill Records producer KUB for the hauntingly dark “Keep Talking”.
And when he’s not spitting bars or spinning records, Ken spends his time prepping the city’s next bunch of musical prodigies through Knowledge Movement – his own hip-hop education company. However, there is one thing that Ken is yet to achieve… his music pressed on vinyl.
The last leg of Ken’s campaign to get his new collaboration with Norwegian producer Torb The Roach pressed on 7″ is in its last week. The four-track project, ‘Cosmic Viking Wizard Funk’, needs another 250-odd pre-orders to hit its target and finally see Ken’s lyrics immortalised on PVC. Fingers crossed Ken and Torb can make it happen!
