Throughout the month of December, 891 of you voted for your ‘Artist of the Year’ 2018 from our shortlist of ten outstanding North East based artists – the winner of which will earn a paid spot at Lindisfarne Festival 2019. We want to thank you all for your support this year and the incredible response to the competition… now let’s get to the results!
3RD – RONINCLAN (161 votes, 18.07%)
A favourite to win the competition, Newcastle trap-metal trio RONINCLAN have had an incredible first year; making a name for themselves in an extremely short amount of time, meaning they’ve pipped well-established names, like HB and Blitz, to the post in 3rd place. An amazing effort from the lads, they’re definitely an act to keep an eye on in 2019.
2ND – NE Dons (246 votes, 27.61%)
Newcastle grime duo NE Dons are another act that have made an incredible impact in 2018. Having already built a substantial amount of hype with live performances and singles “NANG” and “Pick N Mix”, the Dons dropped their debut EP ‘NANG’ in September; etching their name as one of the most impressive new acts of 2018.
WINNER – Shakk (308 votes, 34.57%)
The winner and first ever RIDE Music ‘Artist of the Year’, is Teesside’s favourite urban poet Shakk! Smashing out viral music videos before dropping his ‘I AM YOU’ EP back in May, Shakk made an instant impact in the region; boasting a lightning fast flow paired with a sharp wit and cutting political bars. With a huge 34% of the vote, Shakk ran away with the competition; earning him a paid spot at Lindisfarne Festival 2019.
