Bubblegum Trap with Anime Eccentricity, Meet The Underd0g | Interview

The Underd0g

Not what you’d expect to hear or see when picturing your typical rapper from the gritty New York borough of The Bronx, The Underd0g is exactly what he claims to be. An under dog, a misfit, an artist doing his own thing with no regard to conformity.

Often sporting bright hair and an anime inspired fit, The Underd0g is the auto-croon king of the underground that any ‘old head’ would love to hate. His twinkly trap sound and smooth vocals reminiscent of Lil Tracy, but with an arguably better delivery and more playful vibe. It’s emo trap in the sense that The Underd0g’s lyrics can be pretty dark, but his sound is far from melancholic, its bubblegum sweetness enough to melt your teeth at times.

First off tell us who you are and where you come from?

I was born in Bronx, NY. But I grew up back and forth between Long Island and Queens.

How would you describe your sound?

It’s tough to describe just because I experiment with so many different sounds.

Give us a little insight into what got you started in music and when you decided to take it seriously.

I grew up loving music, my dad was also a musician. I started making songs and fucking around in 2011, but never took it serious til like 2016. So it’s been about 4 years.

Your fashion sense is really unique, what inspires your style and does fashion play a big part in your life?

My fashion sense is the same as my music, all over the place lol. I come from a mixing pot of a city with all types of people. I was the kid who hung out with dudes who listen to hip hop, but then I hit warped tour every year with kids who listen to pop punk/emo shit. I also grew up into all types of stuff like cartoons, anime, WWE, video games etc. All that shit influenced my style. My drip is important to me, I get to express myself without saying a word.

Who do you look up to that’s making music now – are there any other underground artists we should be following?

It wasn’t till I heard Kid Cudi that I decided I wanted to make music. Only person who me think “wait I can be my weird ass self, make music and people will like it?”. You should be following Saucekiid Reesey and Litemyselfonfire. My brothers and also dope artists.

How have you been dealing with this pandemic?

It was tough to adjust to at first. Which is weird because I’m an introvert. I like spending time alone. I guess it’s not having the balance between hanging out with friends and being alone that was fucking me up. I got used to it though, just been working on myself, my music and making dumbass Tiktoks. I always find a way to adapt.

Finally, what’s your plans for the rest of 2020 (if everything goes back to normal soon…)?

I plan on dropping a lot of music videos, a project and hopefully go on tour (if everything goes back to normal soon…).
