Breaking out in 2019 with his dark and dramatic single “CRYING (INTHERAIN)”, South Carolina’s KEEPMYSECRETS had the attention of the underground. Quickly following up with his stellar debut album ‘Vampire’, KMS dispelled the myth that he was set to be a one hit wonder.
Armed with hard hitting beats that don’t hold-back on bass, KMS floats between dark emo trap and emotion filled alternative hip-hop. Never afraid to bare all on a track, KMS’ lyrics often address his relationship with death and struggle to find meaning in life. Despite the depressing subject matter, KMS knows how to make the most cathartic track equally the most catchy.

First off tell us who you are and where you come from?
I’m KEEPMYSECRETS, and I’m from South Carolina.
How would you describe your sound?
I dunno, a lot of the songs have a similar vibe, but I like to think I’m pretty dynamic so I wouldn’t wanna really to describe it as one thing, but I definitely dig the darker kinda moody stuff.
Give us a little insight into what got you started in music and when you decided to take it seriously.
My dad did music, and I got into instruments and rock shit at an early age. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to make music. My parents kinda tried to get me to do other stuff from the beginning. I guess I just always wanted to prove everyone wrong, I think that’s why I’m still doing it at this point. I also really enjoy doing it still.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations?
My Chemical Romance, Slim Dunkin, and Meatloaf.
Your recent single with SpaceMan Zack, DUNNOWHYIMALIVE, was put on our playlist last week – could you tell us about the track and what inspired you to write such a dark song?
Hey thanks for checking it out! Writing stuff like that just kinda comes natural to me, always has. It’s the only way I can really get behind my own lyrics. Only way I dont feel corny making music is to try to keep it as realistic to me as I can. Theres just where I’m at right now in life.
Who do you look up to that’s making music now – are there any other underground artists we should be following?
I dont really think I look up to anyone. But I really do enjoy NVTVS, SMZ, Lil Texxan, Foreign, Fernvndo, Lil Brokenheart, and then theres a million billion more but those are the homies off top!
How have you been dealing with this pandemic?
Same as everyone, still going to the grocery store and raw dogging strangers hahaha!
What’s your plans for the rest of 2020?
For now we’re all just kinda hanging out and working on content and all that good stuff. As best as we can, if we can manage to stay motivated. It’s hard sometimes. If everything goes back to (((normal))) I really wanna go on tour.
Finally, can you tell us one of your secrets?
Hmm, I honestly dont really have any… I pissed my pants in 2007 cause my friend slammed a door in our school really hard. That’s pretty funny. Prolly not to y’all… but the memory of it still kills me hahaha!
