Mixtape Review: ‘Blue Magic 3’ – COLL

COLL is a fast rising face on the UK scene that’s been grafting to put his home city of Norwich on the rap map for years. This artist is a certified local legend with bags of national clout too. His new mixtape, the third in a series, ‘Blue Magic 3‘ has just dropped and it’s shaping up to be his best project to date.

A fully formed, carefully crafted tape, ‘Blue Magic 3’ features 10 tracks and is packed to the brim with exciting and dynamic collabs that really give the project an extra punch. A mix of singles and interludes, COLL harks back to the golden age of the mixtape with this one and we absolutely love it. It’s COLL at his absolute best on every track and this carefully selected group of collaberators seem to make him step his skills up behind the mic.

“I made BM3 with the sole purpose of collaborating with other people I respect,” said COLL.

I wanted it to be fun and something you can listen to on repeat. It’s my third mixtape and I feel very blessed to have come this far and to have worked with so many talented people along the way.

“This is the final one in the Blue Magic series so I hope you enjoy it.”

And we certainly did enjoy it. “Coldest Winter” featuring Sleep’s Cousin has to be the stand out track for us. It’s just bars upon bars, both artists attacking the mic with all they have over this cold beat.

“Sleep’s Cousin is another artist from the east of England who is making big waves,” said COLL.

“I respected his work ethic and when we linked up in the studio we made a song we were both happy with after just 2 hours. When I had produced the beat I had to re-write my verse after I heard what Sleep’s had done.

He clearly wasn’t playing around that day and It’s always good to be kept on your toes. We both went in, no mercy.”

As far as we’re concerned COLL went in no mercy across this entire tape. ‘Blue Magic 3’ is without doubt one of the hardest mixtapes of the year so far. Hands down. COLL is holding it down for Norwich.
