Single Review: “can’t feel your love” – VANES

Wolverhampton, UK based rising indie-rapper VANES (he/him/sensitiveboi), a.k.a being vanes, drops upbeat new single can’t feel your love

While electric guitar and drums batter the mix to create an energetic backdrop, VANES’ punchy and, at times, school-boy (ish) sounding rap melodies continue the challenge to socially expected stereotypes of British hip-hop today.

In particular, pre-bridge lyrics “will I ever learn my lesson? Stick to gyal like I was resin, want their love but cannot get it”, show insight into the artist’s self-understanding. Reflecting on this, the indie rap newcomer says:

“Not gonna lie, learning this the hard way kinda sucks, I’ve a tendency to grasp at things, instead of just letting them naturally emerge for themselves.”

can’t feel your love is the second track on VANES self-released debut EP ‘pixie dust’, following later this year. Mastered by LA-based mixing engineer Clinton ‘HeadAche’ Walker III (MaSiWei, Tiana Major9), sonically speaking, it’s a guitar heavy hip-hop vibe that “playfully explores narratives of so-called co-dependency”

With a creative imagination that includes making up his own pronouns, we’re super curious to see what Sailor Moon loving sensitiveboi delivers next!
