Gig Preview: The Wytches – UK Winter Tour

Spacious, sinister and menacing. The Wytches announce UK tour.

Grunge rock-surfers The Wytches have announced a new UK winter tour. The doom rockers will play 13 dates across the UK and have added a date at Newcastle’s Riverside on the 25th of November for a night of plutonic surf-doom.

The Brighton quartet have also released new tracks in the shape of “Double World”. It’s the first material that has emerged from the band this year, with their previous release coming in 2016 in the form of their sophomore record “All Your Happy Life”. What is immediately apparent, is that “Double World” finds the band collectively edging into a spacious, sinister and ominous musical environment.

Less in your face than previous efforts such as “Digsaw” or “Robe For Juda”, “Double World” is a more textured record and one that employs acoustic guitars as well as great deal of space and ambience. The result is an exercise in tension and release that marks a departure for the band.

With their sold out Halloween party at Hackney’s MOTH Club signalling the imminent arrival of their UK Tour. Both tracks were recorded in lead singer Kristian Bell’s Garage, meaning “Double World” comes with a suitably Lo-Fi audio experience. This is only enhanced with a mysterious video directed by Mark Breed.

The Wytches have earned themselves a ferocious live reputation. From goth-tinged debut album Annabel Dream Rider to 2016’s broader follow-up “All Your Happy Life”, the band have created a furore that is entirely their own while not shying away from signposting their influences. It’s a continual shifting sound that enthrals and enchants.

Those lucky enough to secure tickets will be treated to malodorous surf-rock as the evening promises to leave a lasting impression for a significant amount of time.
